• Hello,

Upon realizing that my installation was hacked yet again (despite my insane attempts at security), I attempted to restore from a Softaculous backup. When this failed to solve the problem I attempted to upload a previous backup that I knew was safe, from my computer, to the MyPHPadmin. This did not work because it said the file was too large (95.2Mb). Next, I found this post describing how to upload a Softaculous backup that you have saved back to Softaculous (https://www.softaculous.com/board/index.php?tid=787). I followed these steps, creating a new installation of WordPress, creating a backup of it, and renaming my old safe backup that I want to this same name, and replacing the new install backup in the “Softaculous Backups” folder of File Manager with it. Upon doing this, it showed up in the Softaculous backups page, as expected. However, when I try to restore with it the progress gets to only 3% before I receive an error message full of characters that I can’t even type (abbreviated below).

Can anyone please help me fix this? All I want to do is use a backup of a previous installation with a new installation so that I do not have to completely rebuild my website again. Maybe this is harder than it seems, but I’m sure someone can help.

    Thanks in advance.

The error, without typing the entire thing, is:
    “Invalid checksum for file “N)……
There was some error while unzipping the backup files”

Softaculous is a third-party system, which we really can’t support here, I’m sorry.

In this case, I’d recommend contacting your hosting provider and letting them know you do have your own copy of the database, but it’s too large for phpMyAdmin. They should be able to restore it for you.

Also, mention your trouble with Softaculous, as they may have a solution for that too.

    James,

Thanks for the quick reply. I’m confused, though. Softaculous is the application used to install the WordPress platform, so I figured this is a WordPress issue. Is it not? Is my backup not a WordPress backup, and really a different backup than that for Wrodpress? This is very frustrating.

    Thanks

No, we can’t support third-party installation systems here, we have 0 control over them and 0 affiliation with Softaculous.

If you made a backup in Softaculous, then it’s in a format only Softaculous understands.

Softaculous has their own support system, but they generally ask you to reach out to your hosting provider first.
