Use Only WooCommerce Checkout

We already have a thriving food tour company in Thailand, but out reservation technology offers ONLY PayPal for use to accept payment. They have Stripe as an addon, but not for that country. I have a Stripe account myself here in Thailand and want to test the waters by selling a restaurant web app I designed. I want to sell it directly from our existing website, but only want to add the web app and not our full array of tours and experiences, so I don’t really need to setup a shop per se.

First, congratulations on the thriving business! The food tour company sounds like an interesting venture! Would you be interested in testing the waters in other payment methods for it? I’m not sure which reservation technology you’re using, but you can try with WooCommerce to setup other payment methods, like Stripe.

As I understand you’re interested in trying WooCommerce first by selling a web app. We can certainly help you with that!

So my question is, when setting up WooCommerce, is it possible to do only 1 of the setup steps and be able to use the WooCommerce checkout? The setup step I have done is to complete the Get Paid step ( number 3)and nothing else; it is linked to my Stripe account. Is it possible to now click Launch Your Store (number 6) to begin….or do I even need to click that step at all to begin? I am only wanting access to the WooCommerce checkout, so steps 1, 2, 4 & 5 are really of no interest right at the moment. Down the track, I will probably need to get an api created when we add all of our tours and experiences into the mix, but for now, just a single product.

First, the onboarding wizard and store setup checklist are optional, meaning you can skip them and set up the store exactly as you need it on your own terms. The wizard is there to help new merchants with less experience follow the basic setup.

For instance, since you’ll be selling digital goods you wouldn’t need to setup shipping and you can jump to setting up your product right away for selling (learn more about managing and selling digital products here). I’m not sure about the taxes in your location but you’ll probably would want to look into that section. The customizing your store and growing your audience items are completely optional too (though recommended!).

Is what I am after possible within WooCommerce?

Hi Omar

The reservation technology we are using is Checkfront. They have a WooCommerce addon, which I will look to activate once I can get WooCommerce working at the site.

Still having some issues on that front. If I click #6 in the Home area, Launch Your Store, it brings down our server, so am not sure how to proceed.

Naturally I am setting this up on a staging server, but for whatever reason, when I click Launch Your Store, it just chugs away and then after a couple of minutes, I am alerted that our server is offline and have to restart it.

For the moment, all I really want to be able to do is to use the checkout function. I will create a product page for the PWA and the checkout page will link to our Stripe account.

Down the track, the tours you see here, https://feastthailand.com/food-tours/, will be added as well as our other tours and experiences. As I indicated, I am just wanting to initially see how Woo syncs with Stripe and if I can get that functioning well, then our full inventory will be added using the WC addon in Checkfront.

Any thoughts on what might be causing the issues? Could it be anything to do with the fact it is on the staging server, which has a different address to the live server?

If it helps, I would be happy to give you the login details if you wanted to take a look at the setup.

The reason I was assuming I needed to first launch the store was when I add the checkout shortcode, I don’t see anything when previewing.

If you like, you can skip the Setup Wizard and manually configure the settings later on.

Here are the WooCommerce settings you can manually configure.

To help you further, could you share your Staging site’s System Status Report?
You can find it via WooCommerce > Status.
Select Get system report and then Copy for support.

This will help me understand the server configuration.

Since you are already on a staging site, can you please deactivate all plugins but Woo and try again to see if the issue persists? The reason I’m asking this is to check if there’s something else conflicting with Woo.

Please also update Woo to the most recent version before doing it ??

Before I start deactivating plugins, I need something answered, if possible.

If I only wish to use the checkout function in WC, must I first click Launch Your Store? I don’t need a store, per se. Just the ability to use the WC checkout…nothing more

If you’re only interested in utilizing the checkout functionality, clicking “Launch Your Store” isn’t a strict requirement.

This step is part of WooCommerce’s onboarding process, which primarily helps users set up a complete online store. However, you can still use WooCommerce solely for its checkout features without fully going through this process.

I had a feeling that was the case.

Then the only issue I have is that the checkout page does not show when I use the short code [woocommerce_checkout] on a page.
