I’m doing some preliminary research for a new site and in the back of my mind I’m wondering if I couldn’t use WordPress as the authoring tool, in place of what we have been using, Joomla (which I like, but the WP layouts seem to be cleaner in appearance overall).

The business will be in the solar hot water services business, and the general layout will be a static banner of company name, a center column of changing real-time/seasonal/special interest topics, left column where the menu will be, and a right column with ancillary items such as events calendar, special promos, graphics of recent projects, announcements, et al.

All comments welcome. Whether regarding general layout, appropriate use, managability, whatever you can think of.

    Thanks,
    Richard Carter

  • sounds easily doable – just find a theme with 2 sidebars

One of my concerns in the number of available add-ons, which is a strength of J!; such as ecommerce, graphics, sub-sectioning discussions, etc.
Pardon my ignorance, but WP is new to me.

WP has loads of pulgins…set-up a test site and look at some of them…you can install most of them directly from within the wp admin area so it’s pretty easy to test them.
