Use of short array syntax breaks plugin un PHP

    I encountered the following error with this plugin

    `PHP Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘[‘ in /path/to/plugins/portfolio-slideshow/lib/Plugin.php on line 57

    When I looked at this file, I noticed it uses the short array syntax introduced in PHP 5.4.0. Our host has 5.3 installed, so any sites using the plugin went blank…

  • My cPanel allows me to change my PHP version. I upgraded to 5.4 and the plugin stil doesn’t work. The site didn’t break, but I can’t see my slideshow. I’ve been hoping someone would come up with a fix so I don’t have to downgrade again (I downgraded the plugin before upgrading the PHP and then loaded the new version). I have other things to do, but so far looks like change plugins or downgrade are my only options.

    If the site didn’t break, then your problem is not the same one I experienced. I started this thread to notify the plugin author that the supported PHP version in the plugin README needs to be updated.

    I’m sorry for my delayed response to this thread.

    I’ve just released version 1.11.1 about an hour ago – it’s the most stable version yet, and it’s been tested thoroughly. It works well for me and many other users, and resolves a number of issues that have come up on these support forums in recent weeks and months. It may help with both of your issues.
