    Hi,
I like the product very much and I like the ease of use.

One thing I haven’t been able to figure out yet is the use of the order number if I want to categorise FAQs and want to have for example one FAQ in two categories. Let’s say I have FAQ-1, -2, -3 etc. In the first category I want to have FAQ-2 appear as the first FAQ, but in category 2 I want FAQ-2 appear as the last FAQ. If it is just one FAQ I want to show in two categories, that’s pretty simple to accomplish. But if I have more categories (I need minimum 3) and have more than one FAQ I want to show up in more than one category and in every case in a certain order, I don’t know yet how to do it.

Is it possible to do that?

    Thanks
    Herbert

    Hi Herbert

What you could do is space out the numbering, e.g. 10, 20, 30… instead of 1, 2, 3… Then, if 10 is the first item in category 1 and 20 is the second, but you want 20 to be the last item in category 2 then you could have 17, 18, 19 before it.

For three categories it will take a bit more juggling of numbers but you may be able to figure out a way to do it.

Hope this helps, and thanks for your kind remarks about the plugin.

    regards

    Hi Michael,
that’s what I thought the answer would be.
I believe the only way of solving this is for you to add in settings the option to specify oder numbers per category.
I will use the plugin as is and see how far I can get.
I want to make sure that I do NOT see it as a bug or a big issue of the plugin. Your manual did not create any false expectation here. I just hope to be able to use the plugin forever, because after a full day of playing around with other FAQ plugins I found your plugin being far superior.

    Hi Herbert

Thanks very much for your kind comments, I’m very glad you like the plugin.

If you can specify in some more detail exactly the functionality you need, I’ll see if I can add it to a future version.

    regards

    Hi Michael,

in theory what a possible scenario could be, is you have 10 FAQs, FAQ-1, -2 etc. and 3 categories, C-1, c-2, c-3. Now you want in c-1 to have FAQ-1 to -5 ordered 1,2,3,4,5 and then in c-2 also five FAQs, ordered to FAQ-5,3,7,8,9 and in c-3 you want to have FAQs in order 4,2,9,8,7,10.

I don’t know if there could be a simple add to what you have today, like a check box: “do you want to set up multiple FAQs?” and then the possibility to specify order numbers per category.

For my application it is not very urgent to have this. But I have 3 categories at the moment and I know there will be FAQs I need to show in all categories.

If you can’t add that functinality without a lot of work, then it might not be worth to do. Alternatively my workaround would be to duplicate FAQs and assign the duplicate to another category. Then my next question would be: Could you add a button “Duplicate this FAQ”?

Again – I like the plugin (and I left a positive review)

    Hi Michael,
I gave it some more thoughts and came to the conclusion that a “Duplicate FAQ” would be a better solution. This would allow to make changes and ammendments to the text in the individual FAQs. And then it would be also easier to make changes to the order of the FAQs. When it comes to long lists of FAQs the other option I described yesterday could become complicated to use.

    Hi Herbert

I agree that it could become inordinately complicated and that duplicates are probably the best way to do this.

I could code in some kind of elaborate ‘order within category’ functionality, but I think it would be complicated and detract from the ease of use of the plugin. It would also have very limited appeal, so I suggest you go with the duplicates in this instance.

I doubt that questions and answers would change very much. For most people once they’ve been entered that’s it, so there wouldn’t be any maintenance overhead with having duplicates.

    Hope that’s okay!

    Hi Michael,

yes, duplicate would be sufficient in most cases, if not all.
