• WordPress newbie here! I need to be able to keep index.html as a non-Wordpress webpage, so my first thought was to have my domain host point my domain where I want WordPress to live (emmaraymond.com) to the index.php file on my local webserver (so emmaraymond.com->myipaddress/index.php).

I’m guessing this is not the right way to do this ?? as 2 things happen:

-none of my WordPress admin/dashboard links work when (left) clicking on them (though I can control or right click to “open the link in a new page/window” and the WordPress admin pages open fine).

    -index.html gets overwritten by WordPress

I could live with the right clicking and make index.html read only, but as smart as the other features are I figure WordPress has a right way to do this–which I’m not using?!

    Thanks!

It might help if you explained why you need to do this.

Why dont you use 1 template for your site , what you prefer , and install in 1 other folder the subdomain like wordpress , forum vbulletin or others,…. more and add subdomains to your sites, like :

    wordpress.emmaraymond.com

    forum.emmaraymond.com

More simple , and you can make an huge best sites with under-domains for undergrounds…

    Good like.

Anyway you cant diferent beetwen this only if you specified in your Apsche config or on your hosting.
