• I have a situation where thousands of images are already in the s3 bucket. I would like to just use the url for the images in AWS in WordPress without importing any images into WordPress.

That is there is no need to import any images into WordPress then upload to AWS s3 then delete the images in WordPress.

I can set up an import to create posts and put the AWS urls into a WordPress field or ACF field.

How would your plugin work in this situation?

    Hi there!

WP Offload Support Team here, Thanks for reaching out with your query we would be happy to assist!

Since there are thousands of files that are already in the bucket that are not on your WordPress site, I’m assuming those files do not have any corresponding Media Library records since those files are not uploaded via the WordPress Media Library.

If that’s true then I’m afraid WP Offload Media won’t be able to handle and manage those files. You’ll need to re-upload those files on your WordPress site’s Media Library for our plugin to detect and offload those files.

WP Offload Media relies on the media library database records created by WordPress. These database records are only created if the file has been uploaded via the WordPress Media Library. If it’s not uploaded via the Media Library, WordPress won’t create the database records and WP Offload Media won’t detect those files.

However, if those files already have corresponding Media Library records then you can use our ‘Add Metadata Tool’. More info here –

Please note that Add Metadata Tool is a pro feature only

If you’d like to use WP Offload Media going forward and you’re concerned about server storage and process efficiency, the plugin does have a “Remove Local Media” setting which will automatically remove the file from server after it has been offloaded to your bucket –
    https://deliciousbrains.com/wp-offload-media/doc/settings/#remove-local-file

This is done on the background and any time you upload a new file, the plugin will automatically offload that to your bucket and remove it from server once done.

Please let us know if you have any further questions.
