Use free space on the screen / expand Textwidth

  • Hi all,
    normal Notebooks offer a wide screen, but my wordpress with theme twentyfourteen uses only about two third of the screen width, the respective article only one quarter.

    Questions:

    • Is there any possibikity to increase the textwidth?
    • Is there any possibikity to increase all the elements, dso that the screen is used totally?
    • Is there any possibility to place widgets into the empty right space?
