    Hi guys!

I don’t want to treat ALL outgoing links as sponsored, only a few.

In the past, I added all (affiliate) links I wanted to be treated differently as “exceptions” using URL patterns. That way, I could automatically have them marked as rel=nofollow.

Now Google wants them to be marked as rel=sponsored and I was hoping that I could simply set all “exceptions” to rel=sponsored. But the plugin only supports rel=follow/nofollow.

Could you please add rel=sponsored as an option or come up with a better way to mark affiliate links accordingly. I use a /go/URL pattern for most affiliate links, so I can update and target them easily.

    Thanks,
    Michael

Hi Michael, I’ve added your request to our to-do. At the moment I really can’t say how much work it is. I’ll dig deeper into the code and see if we can include it in the next release.

Following up on that thought, it’d also be great if such exceptions/links could be marked with an icon or symbol that clearly indicates to visitors that these links might be sponsored or affiliated.

Of course you could do that manually, but it would take forever to do that for existing links.

    Cheers,
    Michael

    Hi guys!

I don’t know if this feature has been implemented already but because I was impatient, I coded the feature myself using a simple code snippet and a WP filter – see https://michaelkummer.com/tech/blogging/link-attributes/ if anyone wants to re-use the code.

    Cheers,
    Michael

    Hey ??
Thank you! This will come in handy.
I’m 98% sure we already added rel=sponsored to our plugin ??
