Is there a setting (or, if not, could there be?) that allows me to automatically have my WordPress “Featured image” set/used as the episode image (aka the <item>‘s <itunes:image>) by default instead of me having to go into the Powerpress > Episode Artwork > Apple Podcast Episode Artwork > Upload Episode Artwork > Media Library > [Show on image] > Insert Into Post every time?

I thought it was already doing this and, of course, realized this morning that it’s not.

    Thanks!

This is not functionality that currently exists in PowerPress. We can pass it on to the Blubrry dev team for consideration in a future update to the plugin, if you’d like.

I think that would be pretty valuable, and anecdotally I think it’s something many podcasters already believe exists in the software, so would potentially be helpful to add for that reason, too. Thanks!

The only downside I can see is that episode-level images have to be specific dimensions to be accepted in podcast apps. Not all themes use the same size for featured images.

Great point @daveclements! Does the existing functionality do any verification on the size of the selected/uploaded image to make sure it adheres? If not, then that would be another (quite important) feature request regardless.

And if/once it does, then it could do that same verification if defaulting to the Featured Image, too.

PowerPress doesn’t currently do any validation/verification of image files.
