Use custom thumbnail or featured image

Is there a a filter or some other way to use a custom image or the featured image on the post instead of the Vimeo thumbnail? I am using the Video Thumbnails plugin to successfully set the featured image of the post to the thumbnail of a private video. Would be a great workaround if I could filter the lazy load image and use the featured one.
There is only one video on each page so this takes out the issue of potentially having the same thumbnail for multiple videos on a page/post.
