• Hi all,

Beginner here. There’s this theme that i’m really interested in… Thing is, it was made specifically for cooking recipes, and I want to use and adapt it to talk about cars ??
I’ve never bought a theme that was made for a specific subject and used it for another one…

I’m fairly confident that if I buy the theme + set up a child theme, i should be able to adapt the whole thing by replacing all the cooking stuff (buttons, icons, droplists, etc) by car stuff. But what happens if a theme update comes out and i need to update it ?

With the website i am currently using (for other purposes), i was able to make a lot of edits thought the child theme, but some I had to make directly via the main theme. Updating the theme is a now a bit problematic.

So i guess my final question is :

–> is it possible to make all necessary edits through a childtheme (to adapt a cooking site to an automobile one for example) WITHOUT touching the main theme ?

    I hope i explained correctly… ??

    Thanks for your inputs ??

    Cheers

  • Yes, that’s exactly what Child Themes are for: altering templates without touching the parent templates.

So when you update the parent, all your changes will be untouched.

thanks for your reply. So just to make sure i understand: through a child theme, i can edit everything, from buttons, category names, etc, anything that has to do with cooking (in this example), and when a theme update comes and i do update it, the update won’t revert everything to their original “cooking version”

    Correct ?

Thanks again, sorry i just need to make sure.

If this is regarding a commercial theme then you need to direct this at your theme’s vendors/ authors.
