    Hi there,

I’ve got a few questions about how this plugin works and what it can do…

    1) I’d like to confirm, based on your comment here, that the plugin only works when updating an already published post — it doesn’t do anything when first publishing a post. Is that right?

    2) Does the plugin detect if there have been any changes to the og metada in order to decide whether it should tell Facebook to empty its Open Graph cache? What I mean is that if there haven’t been any changes to the og metadata, then it’s best for Facebook to retain the cached info. So say you’re just correcting a few typos or something, you might not want the plugin to do anything. I’m just wondering how the plugin accounts for such scenarios.

    3) Does this plugin work on a site using the Yoast SEO plugin to set the og metadata?

    4) Does the plugin also work with taxonomies? Since I’m using Yoast I can add og metadata to taxonomies. So if the plugin does work with taxonomies, is it possible to exclude some of them (the same way the plugin allows excluding post types)?

Thanks for clarifying things for me!

    Hi!

    1) Well no, in theory is should tell Facebook to update its cache when you create an post, but that should not be a problem, the only difference is that when someone shares the page for the first time Facebook will already have the content saved on their servers.

    2) Everytime that you save the post it will tell Facebook to update its cache. If there isn’t any changes to the data that Facebook has chached it will just save the same data, so this should not be a problem either.

    3) Yes!

    4) In theory yes, since WordPress saves everything as posts, you should be able to exclude by by writing the taxonomy name instead of post type.
If you visit this link you can se how old Facebooks chache of your data is, try this then re-save the taxonomy-term and try again.

Let me know how it goes, if it does not work I might add it as a feature in a newer release!

    Hi again!

Thanks for getting back to me ??

I just have one more question regarding #2. I’m just wondering if it affects site performance or uses up excessive resources or whatnot by communicating with Facebook every time something is saved…

    Hi!
Well, no, not more than a user visiting the site would.
The plugin just sends the post url to Facebook and Facebook then visits the site and cache the data on their servers.
