    Hello,

I use Canada Post but my store’s base currency is US$. Does this plugin account for that and convert the Canada Post shipping prices to US currency?

    Thanks,

    Petra

    Hi again!

Yes, WooCommerce always works in your store’s base currency, so any values that you see in the admin section are in USD. If you have a plugin that changes the price in the frontend to Canadian dollars, then that only changes the display but not the actual price, so you should be getting correct rates. ??

    Hi again yourself! ??

Just to be very clear because this is important..

The Canadian shipping prices sent by Canada Post will be converted automatically by your plugin to the US currency that is the base currency of my site? I’m making sure because I’ve noticed other plugins that do shipping calculations have explicitly stated things like “There is an option to set conversion value in case the shop uses a different currency”. I want to make sure the Canadian prices sent from CP are output onto my site in US currency.

I have a currency converter on the front end but that is just for display. I want to make sure the CP prices are in US dollars before it gets to my currency converter.

Right now, with the plugin installed, the shipping prices on my site seem a little high.. It seems like it may not be converting to US$, but then again, it could be shipping is just expensive.

Thanks for your quick replies ??

    Hey Petra,

    Thanks for the follow-up.

WooCommerce Services does not provide any currency conversion functionality. Prices are returned from Canada Post in CAD and that is the price that is used. This means in your scenario if Canada Post returned a $10 CAD shipping rate, your store would charge $10 USD (as WooCommerce nor WooCommerce Services provide currency exchanging).

This is certainly a feature we can pass along to our team, however there is a few problem with converting currencies. The biggest of which, is that we couldn’t guarantee that we’d use the same exchange rate as your (or your customer’s bank). This is because each bank will provide its own exchange rates on transactions and they can vary widely. Right now that wouldn’t be a huge issue where the Canadian and U.S dollars are. However, if the currencies are closer to parity it could mean you potentially under-charge your customers for shipping.

I hope that info helps add a little more clarity for you.
