• Hello everyone,

On my website, the blog posts are displayed as a separate page in the domain structure. Is there a way for the blog page to function as the blog post’s overpage? So that the URL hierarchy of a blog post is domain/blog/titelblogpost and not domain/titelblogpost. I already have a blog page on which the blog posts are automatically displayed. My question therefore relates just to the domain structure of blogposts and blogpages.

    Thanks in advance!

  • Absolutely, you can adjust the URL structure for your blog posts in WordPress to include the blog page in their hierarchy. This is typically done by modifying the permalink settings.

    Here’s a step-by-step guide:

    1. Access Permalink Settings: Go to your WordPress dashboard, then navigate to Settings > Permalinks.
    2. Custom Structure: Select the ‘Custom Structure’ option.
    3. Modify the Structure: In the field provided, enter '/blog/%postname%'. This will structure your blog post URLs to be in the format domain/blog/postname.
    4. Save Changes: Don’t forget to save the changes by clicking the ‘Save Changes’ button at the bottom of the page.

This will only affect the structure of your blog posts, not your pages. So, your blog page will remain as domain/blog, and your individual blog posts will follow the domain/blog/postname format.

Please ensure to check your website after making these changes for any unintended effects, especially if you have existing content. Changing permalink structures on an established site can sometimes lead to broken links, so you might need to set up redirects for old URLs to the new ones.

    Yes.

You need to create the permalinks structure for the same, See below screen and go to this page in wordpress dashboard. Once you there choose option “custom structure” and type following command /blog/%postanme%/ and save this. That’s it

I tried that and it works, however, I have custom post types set up via ACF and when I add the blog/ prefix for the regular / built-in posts (which is good), blog/ is also showed in the URL of the custom post types (which is not good), making the URL look like sitename/blog/news/news-article. Is there any way to prevent that?

Hey @elektronicat, I suppose you have found your answer by now, but in case someone else lands on this post, you have to go to the advanced settings of your custom post type and toggle the “Front URL Prefix to off.
