For one of my WordPress sites, whenever I go in to edit a post that has already been saved, such as a draft or previously published post, the URL slug field will automatically fill in with my admin username. This has been going on for years and I’ve gotten used to checking it before publishing but I sometimes forget and I later find that I’ve republished my post with my admin name, breaking the original link to the page.

I’ve tried different browsers, I’ve reinstalled WP several times, I’ve disabled all plugins, and I’ve tried different themes. I’m not sure what could be causing it except for maybe some weird code that could have gotten passed down from the database moving around over the years. I have several other WP sites and I don’t have this problem on any of them except for this one.

  • When reinstalling WordPress or installing a new theme, do you also start with a fresh database?
Have you ruled out any form of autocomplete in your browsers?

@peter-level – Oh wow, I can’t believe I’ve never thought of autofill. I thought I had it turned off on Lastpass but looks like that was the culprit. I don’t know why this doesn’t happen on any of my other sites but seems to be fixed now. Thanks for your help!
