URL Slug without – Not Working

    When creating pages on my WordPress site, the pages without dashes in the URL slug are not considered pages by WordPress. For example, if I have mydomain.com/about/, WordPress will not consider it a page (is_page returns false) and I will not get an option to “Edit Page” on the top admin bar. But if my page is, mydomain.com/about-us/, WordPress will consider it a page (is_page returns true) and I will get an option to “Edit Page” on the top admin bar.

    Any ideas of why this is happening?
