We send out a daily Post Notification email. Some subscribers are now reporting that when they click on the links in the email they receive they receive a 404 error with ‘Page not found’. They didn’t have this problem when they signed up.

My investigation has uncovered that all the URLs in these “failing 404” emails have been rewritten to “https://url6b.mailanyone.net/v1/?m=1nmfqC-0001m5….” etc, whereas if I check a Notification email I receive from MailPoet, it works and the URL is “https://www.henleyherald.com?mailpoet_router&endpoint=track&action=click&data….”

I believe the rewriting is an email security function that the subscribers’ businesses have implemented. So I know this is not a MailPoet problem, but I’d like to try and help our subscribers, who are (very) non-technical, to feed back some helpful info to their IT departments on what might be going wrong.

Whilst technical myself, I don’t really understand how URL rewriting works. Have you got any info, comments or insights that I could usefully pass on to our affected subscribers?

    Hi there @zimbo000 ????!

Thank you for reaching out to MailPoet Support!

Oh, so if I am getting this right it looks to be exactly what you have described. Some security layer implemented on their mail server that is replacing the original link for others.

I think that you could ask them to reach out to their mailing service (probably their hosting company) and tell them to whitelist the emails coming from you; and/or to disable the link redirecting for the links coming from your domain name henleyherald.com

You can add one of the ‘proper’ links on your email and one of the redirected ones so that they can see it.

Let’s see if that’s enough and please keep us posted if you get any feedback from their mail server folks. I am not sure I will be able to help much from here but will be glad to try to point you in the right direction.

    Cheers!

    Hi again @zimbo000,

    Glad to hear that.

I will now mark the thread as resolved but please open up a new one if you need further help with this or any other issue.

    Cheers
