• Hello,

I am trying to achieve 2 things for my site. I have searched the plugin pages and have come across many options. Before I go ahead and try a relevant(to me) few I wanted to get personal experiences that you have had using any/some of these plugins, which might cater good possible solution for my case.

Let me detail my requirements below to put things into context.

    1. Url Mask – I want to mask url of certain pages on my site. Not all pages, some, which I can select. Then mask their url, NOT forward them, NOT shorten. For example, lets say I have a page mysite/testpageone and I want to mask it to otherwebaddr/hiddenpageurl. like that mysite/testpagetwo to anotherwebaddr/xyzurl, etc etc. And these maksings in such a way that it is not traceable.

    Plugin Suggestions

    2. Hide Page Source – Hide all/some page source from right click as well as developer tools.

    Plugin Suggestions

Awaiting to learn from your experience.
    Thanks

  • 1. Read https://httpd.apache.org/docs/current/rewrite/remapping.html#old-to-new

    2. This is about browsers, not WordPress. Search on the internet for solutions, but they can always be bypassed.

Interesting article Joy. So does that mean all these plugins –
    URL mask plugins

    Are no good?

I have never tried any of those plugins, so I don’t know.
WordPress uses rewrites to take control of all the URLs that don’t exist as a file or folder. Then internally it has rewrite rules to map pretty permalinks to show the corresponding information. Those URLs do not exist as files on the server, so it is essentially doing what you are asking anyway. But it is all the same domain name. Plugins may exist to change that even more.
To me, it sounds devious to show a different domain name than what is real.

This part just never works and anyone who says otherwise is likely trying to sell something to you.

    2. Hide Page Source – Hide all/some page source from right click as well as developer tools.

If someone can retrieve and display your site on their browser then they can see the source, they can get your images, etc.

This next part is a little dodgy.

For example, lets say I have a page mysite/testpageone and I want to mask it to otherwebaddr/hiddenpageurl. like that mysite/testpagetwo to anotherwebaddr/xyzurl, etc etc. And these maksings in such a way that it is not traceable.

ananddevops, what you are asking is unscrupulous and maybe a little unethical. Don’t try to mask URLs from what they really are. That’s “Black Hat SEO” and your site will get caught and penalized on search engines.

If you want to present content to users then just do that. Don’t try to fool then, don’t try to obfuscate things. It doesn’t work and your site will just get a bad reputation for playing such games.

    @joy and @jan

Let me put the negative thought process and assumptions to rest.
And @jan, my use case is pretty simple and not the thriller you have managed to cook up.

Use Case: An application has two type of users A and B. Different pages service each type. A subset of data is common between the two. I want A to be serviced as Application1(url1) and B to be serviced by Application2(url2).Each application relevant to each type of user.

I already know a few ways to do it. mod_write was an interesting learning.

As for the context of this query
    – I am new to WordPress and was wondering ways to achieve it using the same. I came across a few plugins and wanted to try a MVP using a plugin. My experience till now has been that some plugins are so fantastic that it doesn’t make sense to reinvent the wheel. Hence wanted to check if anyone had suggestions and experience in using the ones available.

    Let me know.
