Hi, having a lot of trouble getting my new site up and running:

I had a previous wordpress site running, however, I changed the domain name through the WP settings in the dashboard and the site crashed on me. The new domain name I selected is the domain I am trying to create a site for now. I didn’t want to continue using the previous site I had so I pulled the information out of the public.html.

I now have a hosting account that is only linked to my new domain (the one which I tried to change my previous website to). I used the hosting information in my welcome email from my hosting provider (namecheap) and connected to the host via Filezilla. I created a databade name and user name with password through mySQL. I downloaded the current version of wordpress and uploaded it to the public.html. (I do not get an index.html file.. )

This is where I am having trouble, when I type in my new URL into my browser (Chrome), I get a message saying “This webpage is not available”…. further down it says “DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN”.

I am totally lost on this, if anyone can add their two cents it would be greatly appreciated. The domain I am trying to run is named “brennanvisser.com”.

    Brennan

It’s possible the DNS hasn’t propagated yet. I just tried to ping brennanvisser.com and was told it could not find the host.

I’ve done this myself, perhaps the domain was registered incorrectly? I transposed two letters in the domain I was trying to register. Perhaps it’s something like that?

When I purchased my hosting it asked me to link my domain – my domain was already registered with the same company so it was available in a dropdown.

From there I proceeded with the specific information from the welcome email. So it look like the domain was spelled correctly. as for the DNS not matching up yet, I am not sure – I will have to contact my hosting provider.

If I had a DNS issue would I not be able to access cpanel?

If you have access to cpanel. Check in the DNS settings, perhaps it’s not configured to point traffic to your site. The other thing would be to contact your hosting provider and asking them to check why your site isn’t showing up.

It’s odd that I cannot ping it. I just used a global DNS propagation tool (https://www.whatsmydns.net/#A/brennanvisser.com) to have it ping from all over the world and it can’t find the domain either.

I think starting with your hosting provider would be the first step. Find out why it’s not letting everyone know the domain is valid.

Thanks for you assistance, I will try what you have suggested and reach out to my hosting provider! I will leave this forum open at the moment.

I contacted my provider and this is what I received in response:

“The issue was caused by DNS being out of sync. Such issue may occur randomly on rare occasions only. We have re-synchronized the DNS zone for your domain.”

    Everything is working well now.

    Thanks again for your support.
