URL for FB sdk.js is wrong; code uses nonexistent “WEF.local” variable?

Pages on my site were trying to load the URL https://connect.facebook.net//sdk.js, which doesn’t exist. To fix this, I had to go to https://[blog-url-deleted]/wp-admin/options-general.php?page=embedfacebook#magic_embeds, set the language in the “Facebook settings” section, and save the settings. It seems to me that the code should have a default language that it uses automatically if that setting isn’t saved? Either that, or it needs to put a banner on the dashboard or something telling the user that the language needs to be set and saved.
