Hello everyone, thank you for you attention.

I’ve updated Wordfence a couple of days ago and now I cannot access my website from the backend.

    It shows:
‘CODE REQUIRED: Please provide your 2FA code when prompted.’,
but no place where to insert the code is shown.

I’ve also cleared the cache through Cloudflare but nothing changes.

I have no idea about what to do, I am totally locked out.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

Hello @fdl95 and thanks for reaching out to us!

I’m happy to provide you with instructions on how to get back into your site. Follow these steps:

    • Please use FTP/SFTP — or any file manager your web host provides via their administration panel.
    • Look inside the /wp-content/plugins/ directory and rename the wordfence directory to wordfence.bak.
    • Once you have logged in to your WordPress admin you can name the folder back to wordfence again.
    • Refresh your dashboard and you should be able to see Wordfence Active again. If not, go to the Plugins page and Activate it.

Once you get in, we can figure out why it blocked you by finding your IP in Tools > Live Traffic or Firewall > Blocking page.

Let me know what you find!

    Thanks!

    WOW.

Thank you, you have the fastest and most competent support ever.

I did everything and I worked perfectly.

I would like to understand why was I blocked out, but I don’t see ‘Live Traffic or Firewall’ under Tools.
I have ‘Live Traffic or Firewall’ in Wordfence, but still I don’t see anything weird, or maybe I just dunno what to look for.

    Hello again @fdl95

If you navigate to Wordfence > Tools > Live Traffic, you could filter by your IP address to find your block. Once you do find it, expand the block (click on it) to see the reason for the block.

Let me know what you find!

    Thanks!

It happened again. Anyway, I got in, changing the .bak file; and I see that I have two different errors in there for the login I attempted:
    1st: type redirected
    2nd: Failed login

If I click on it as you said nothing expand: I can only click ‘block ip’ ‘run whois’ ‘see recent traffic’.

May I ask you what should i click in order to expand it?

Could I copy the two Errors in full, and paste them here? Or it wouldn’t be safe?

    Thank you

Can you screenshot the errors and then email them to wftest @ wordfence . com? Make sure to put your username as the subject of the email.

Let me know once you have sent them!

    Thanks!

    I did it,

    Thanks for sending that!

It looks like it mentions a failed login. This could be from a stored password in your browser or even browser cache. I suggest clearing your browser cache and removing any stored passwords you might use for your site.

Let me know if this helps!

    Thanks!

The stored passwords are correct, I’ve cleared the cache, please stand by, in two or three days we’ll know if it was that the problem.

Also this morning I had to access manually, passing through the host, and is kinda annoying. Let’s hope is solved now. ??

    I’ll keep you updated

    Hi Adam,
unfortunately the problem keep presenting itself, even if the cache were cleared and the password is correct.

I really don’t know what to do at this point..

I use Wordfence in order to have the 2FA authentication, wouldn’t make sense to deactivate it..
I’ve sent you another email with the two errors.

Thank you for your aviabilty, I really appreciate it,
    F.

It is strange that it continues. Are you the only person that logs into this?

You could add your IP to the Allowlist to see if this corrects it. Navigate to All Options > Advanced Firewall Options and add it here.

Let me know if you get blocked again.

    Thanks!

I am afraid that that wouldn’t help, cause for exemple now I am in another location, therefore different IPs.

I am the only person that log into this, i have two different administrator accounts, one for the front end, which never gives me problems (doesn’t has 2fa) and the main one, which (again right now) block me out ond tells me ‘CODE REQUIRED: Please provide your 2FA code when prompted.’ but no new window where to insert the code appears.

Can you send a diagnostic report to wftest @ wordfence . com? You can find the link to do so at the top of the Wordfence Tools > Diagnostics page. Then click on “Send Report by Email”. Please add your forum username where indicated and respond here after you have sent it.

    Thanks!

‘Diagnostic report has been sent successfully.’

    Thank you,
    I’ve sent it.

It seems maybe a data table has gone corrupt after the update.

A complete re-install of Wordfence might be a good step. It’s always best to make a backup of the site and database before installing/removing plugins, just to be safe.

Additionally, you can backup your Wordfence settings via the Export option. Navigate to Wordfence > Tools > Import/Export Options and click Export. You can also take note of the current Whitelisted URLs you have in Wordfence > Firewall > All Firewall Options > Whitelisted URLs as these are NOT included in the Import/Export, and will be lost during the re-install.
Here is what is exported: https://www.wordfence.com/help/tools/import-export/
During the export, you will be given a long string of text. Keep this safe, you’ll need it in a few minutes.

After that, enable the option to Delete Wordfence tables and data on deactivation in All Options > General Wordfence Options. You will want to remember to disable this after you reinstall Wordfence again.

After you enable that option, you can deactivate Wordfence from the Plugins area of your site, then delete it. Next, from the plugins area, search for and re-install Wordfence like normal.

It will be like setting Wordfence up for the first time. You will need to enter an email address, and then go into Tools > Import/Export Options and paste that string of text into the Import Wordfence Options field and click the button there.

The firewall will be in Learning Mode by default for 7 days. I would recommend switching this to Enabled and Protected as soon as possible.

Let me know how this goes!

    Thanks!
