• I’m new to WordPress and was just given the keys to an existing self-hosted WordPress 4.9.5 site.

I need to make an urgent update to the logo images on the active theme. (The new logo files have new filename and are visually different from the old ones.) I figured out how to do this and can see the updated images if I look at the site from the same browser that’s logged into WordPress. I’m guessing this is a “preview” mode.

However, if I look at the site with a different browser or a different system, I’m still seeing the site using the old images.

If I navigate to Appearance > Themes in WordPress, I don’t see any option to re-publish or update the active theme.

    What am I doing wrong?

    Many thanks in advance!

  • If you are using the customizer you will select the option for site identity at the bottom of the sidebar there is an option change image click it you will then select the image you want to use.

You will then have an option to clip the image to make it fit. After you have done both of these steps, There is a publish button at the top of the sidebar click it and you are done.

Thanks for the quick response!!! I’m not sure what the “customizer” is.

When I did my edits, I clicked “Appearance”, then “Theme Settings”. Then I clicked “Header” and uploaded new files for “Logo” and “Logo for Mobile Devices”. And finally, I clicked “Save Changes”.

FWIW, if I click “Appearance” then “Themes” and then “Cuatomize” on the active theme, it takes me to a window that says “You are customizing {name of theme}”. I see the updated images here. Interestingly enough, there’s a button at the top that says “Published” but is grayed out.

The Customize is built into wordpress. After you login in you should see it in the top black bar. It should be the 2nd option just select site identity and the option to change the logo which is at the bottom of the customizer page. If you are in the dashboard it would be under appearance->customize. The theme developer could also offer alternative methods to modify the theme. If they have you should ask the theme developer for help. Without knowing the theme name it difficult to say what options are being offered

    Thanks for the help!

However, it turns out my problem was due to caching implemented at the web host level by a web application firewall. I’m not sure why, but it appears I need to manually clear the cache unless I want to wait an hour or so for things to appear on the public-facing site.
