• I’m getting the default critical error page suddenly, saying that WordPress caught an error with my plugin, Nextend. The message asks me to contact my host for assistance with investigating this issue further.

    I tried to login to the dashboard of my page to investigate the issue, but neither the regular login link nor the “recovery mode” link sent by WordPress work. When accessing the link, I still get the default critical error page. ?Can someone please explain what is happening and how to fix?

    The details of the error message are below:

    WordPress version 6.2.2
    Active theme: Attitude (version 4.0.4)
    Current plugin: Nextend (version 1.3.9)
    PHP version 8.0.27

    Error Details
    =============
    An error of type E_COMPILE_ERROR was caused in line 57 of the file /var/www/wp-content/plugins/nextend/library/database/wordpress.php. Error message: Array and string offset access syntax with curly braces is no longer supported

    The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Log in to the control panel provided by your host (e.g. cPanel). Use the file manager to navigate to /wp-content/plugins/. In the plugins directory, delete the /Nextend/ directory. Now you should have regained access to the WordPress dashboard and the site front-end should be accessible for visitors.

    You should then either (a) report the issue to the plugin support for attention, (b) install a more recent version of the plugin if available (the problematic version is 1.3.9), or (c) find an alterative plugin.
