did that and still doesn’t work. any ideas?

I think the FTP method may be the simplest. If you do use that method, make sure to keep a backup copy of any file you modify.

the only thing i’ve been able to access this forum. I figured out what i guess is my main email address by process of elimination, but everytime i try to login to get to my blogs dashboard, the screen shakes and tell me to try again.

if i’m not mistaken, the username is the first 8 letters of my domain name right?

No. It’s the username that you chose when you installed WordPress.
