Uploads Folder and Robots

  • Hi there,

    I’ve got a doubt about how google behaves with the images into uploads folder.

    I want to know whether Google indexes all the images in the folder or only the ones that are used in the different pages of the site. I’ve got a private space for my clients where I publish their pics, I’ve blocked this particular pages in robots.txt and password protected them, but I don’t know if this is enough so Google doesn’t index them.

    Google only knows about something if it’s referenced on your site, so it will only index images you have included or otherwise linked to in your posts/pages/widgets/etc.

    If Google notices that the directory is blocked in robots.txt, it won’t index anything under it, even if they are included or otherwise linked to in your posts/pages/widgets/etc.
