• I’m a definite newbie, and would deeply appreciate any advice you can give me. I have a brand new domain (not a WordPress blog) to which I’m attempting to upload my index to, have chosen a theme I love, which happens to be a WordPress theme, have downloaded WordPress to my public html, as well as the theme files (yes, they’re all extracted), and still am showing the same thing on my site: Index of/; Parent Directory; cgi-bin (folder); wordpress 2.2.2/ (folder), with no graphics and zero content. I have tried following the WordPress instructions for installing the theme, but it keeps referring me to the WordPress dashboard, and this isn’t a WordPress site I’m working with. If anyone out there can help me, please give me step by step instructions as though I were a 5th grader, because I apparently am missing some brain cells on this one (I did just have a baby though, so I’ll use that as an excuse). Seriously though, I’m so freakin’ frustrated. I just want to get the thing up and running, add Adsense, my articles, and get some good traffic going, and am delayed every week trying to remedy this situation. I’ll bet it’s something simple, right? This is my first ‘time/site’, so be gentle, and thanks in advance for your help!

for reference, my site url: truthandcrackers

  • A few basic steps required first:

    1. You need to create a database which will hold your WP install.

    2. You need to configure the install to connect to your database.

    3. You need to install and check that WP is working.

    4. Once the above is all in place, you need to install a theme and activate the theme.

If all of this seems too daunting, let me know and I can give you a hand.
