• I have a local version of WP running on MAMP. I am trying to upload and install a theme but hit a dialogue box asking me:

    Connection Information

To perform the requested action, WordPress needs to access your web server. Please enter your FTP credentials to proceed. If you do not remember your credentials, you should contact your web host.

Problem is being a locally running version of WP on MAMP I have no idea what these local FTP details should be or where to find them in MAMP etc… Has anyone come across this before and if so can you advise me to where I meed to look?

  • nice…
normally this happens when people install daemons / wp under root user incorrectly.

FTP is used by wordpress to move files around instead of php for a number of reasons.

that is how you supply the information but it should not be necessary if everything was installed correctly.

    good luck

Thanks very much for your response… I think everything was installed correctly. Just a basic install and I followed a screen cast, however it did not mention anything about changing permissions on the wp-content directory.

Is there anywhere I can go to get a step by step guide to local install with Mac OS and MAMP? I am not a developer and I do find a lot of these concepts confusing.

The dialogue message is asking me for:

    Hostname

    FTP Username

    FTP Password

Being that I am running a local install on MAMP does anyone know what sort of info is needed here so I can get an idea what it is asking me for? I would appreciate any feedback.

Thanks as I say I am not a developer so it might as well be in Chinese. Is there no documentation anywhere that is more step by step?

MarkerMaker. Did you find a solution to your problem. I’m encountering the exact same problem with WP. There seems to be no step by step information to resolve this. Most people here assume that everyone’s a developer and understands syntax. Could someone please explain in plain and simple terms how to find the information we need?? Or at least explain in laymans terms the next few steps we need to take to resolve our issues?

Hi catukf in all honesty I cannot really remember, I think I gave up and switched to ExpressionEngine however I did ask a colleague at the time and I believe he new the reason why so I have asked him again. If he comes back with anything I will be sure to add it here for you. All the best.

Hi. I found a solution to my problem. I uninstalled WP and reinstalled it using BitNami. That worked for me ??
