• I have scoured the help on this site and have had many different solutions.
I am using a commercial theme from a couple of years ago (my site was hacked and I am re-building).
To start, I am using 3.4.2 because I can’t get the widgets to work in order to remove the side bars.

My problem is that I can not get the upload link to work in the post pages.
I changed my file permissions to 777. No difference.
Deactivated all plugins , no change.
Changed to new media path – no change.
So I switched to the Twenty Eleven theme and now the upload media on the post page works.
Does this rule out being able to use my theme? I really like it and would prefer to keep it. IS there any way to work around this issue while using my theme?

  • What theme is it? In general, commercial themes aren’t supported here, so for a theme-specific issue, you’ll need to ask the developer/vendor for help.

BTW, you really should upgrade WP sooner rather than later — as there are potential security issues with using old versions.

Would love to upgrade, but I can’t use it due to reasons mentioned in my original post.
So as far as my issue goes, I have no way to resolve my issues thru WP?

Not if it’s a problem with a commercial theme. If the developer/vendor isn’t helpful, you could possibly consider hiring someone to look into the problem. Ideally, they’d also fix whatever is causing the problem with the widgets too so that you can use the current version of WP.

Do you know the source of the hack? If it’s a theme vulnerability, continuing to use the same theme may be risky.

I am not qualified to to even venture a guess. What would be an indication that it was theme related? Basically when I would go to the site, chinese text would appear on the screen , nothing else. When I tried to go into the WP login for my site it was completely broken.
