Uploading localhost site to Managed WordPress hosting on GoDaddy

  • I’m trying to upload a site, currently on localhost, to a managed wordpress hosting account. The process offers 2 solutions – start a new site or migrate existing site, obviously I’m going for the latter. It then asks for site login url / username / password – it obviously can’t connect to this site.
    There doesn’t seem to be any cPanel options available to upload the files any other way.

    This is a client site and I told them to go for this hosting option. How can I rectify this to get the site uploaded and live?

  • Hi mikewhitehead00,

    Neither you need new or migrate option, Go for simplest way as follow

    1- Zip your all files in WP folder and upload on root of server
    2- Extract uploaded folder and move all files on root
    3- Export your local database
    4- Create new DB by using MySQL Database wizard from cPanel
    5- Open the phpMyAdmin and here select the newly created DB and use import option to import your local DB here. You are done!

    Don’t forget to update Permalinks in settings > Permalinks in admin after first login.

    There is also a plugin called DUPLICATOR which has a very good reputation.

    It’s been a while since I have used the GD Managed WP product, but this should work nicely ??

    – create a new site on GD
    – install and activate the All In One WP Migration plugin
    – do the same on your local site then do an Export to File
    – once done, do an Import from File on the new site
    – the plugin looks after everything so no need to run a search and replace in the DB for URLs and same with image URLs.

    I recently moved one from live to local and it took less than 5 minutes ??
