• I have searched the forums here, and I see people having similar issues, but their problem is with upload failing. My Issue is:

When I upload a new header, it uploads the file, but the new header is not showing up as one of the available choices.

I know that it gets uploaded because when I go to:

    /wp-content/blogs.dir/3/files/2011/06

I see the files in there:
    – File_Name.jpg
    – File_Name-150×150.jpg
    – File Name-300×63.jpg

I checked the permissions of the folder, and they are:
    chmod: 770
    chown: owner: admin group: www

    Any ideas what is wrong?

  • Which theme are you using? Most of the themes that use custom header images don’t look in the media folder, they look in the themes folder (somewhere like wp-content/themes/[theme name]/images/headers).

I am using default theme, Twenty Ten 1.2.

This is the directory where it uploaded automatically when I went to “Custom Header” under Appearance properties.

Sorry, I should have also mentioned that this issue is not only with headers, same thing happens when I try to upload a picture into a blog. I see the picture uploaded into the /blogs.dir/ folder (four versions of it, different sizes), but the image does not show up in the blog.

Are you uploading the header from the header menu or the media menu?

You need to do it from the theme specific menu where it says to upload the header.

yup, I am in dashboard, appearance, Manage Themes, header,

    Upload Image

You can upload a custom header image to be shown at the top of your site instead of the default one. On the next screen you will be able to crop the image.
Images of exactly 940 × 198 pixels will be used as-is.

Choose an image from your computer:

    link to your site please.

As you can see, there is no header on the page because I uploaded a custom header, which is not showing. If I go back to one of standard headers, they show up fine.

Also in the post, the picture is not showing, only alt text. When you click on alt text to see the picture, it says that the picture was not found on this server, but I can see it fine when I ftp into the server inside: /wp-content/blogs.dir/3/files/2011/06/myempire01_0.jpg

I have seen posts here that state to check the .htaccess file.
I have double checked it, and it is exactly as what wordpress wants since I copy/ paste it. I have also compared it to the example given in wiki, and it is the same.

Then the htaccess file is not being read by the server.

Got it, I am running my own server with an “unconventional” linux distribution. It is focused on security.
So by default this server has AllowOverride disabled. Once I found how to enable it, it works now.

Oh fun times. ?? Running SELinux? yeah drives us nuts. ??
