Trying to upload an image because it isn’t showing up in my gallery. It is in the ftp folder online (2014/08) but I thought I would RE upload it to see if it would work. When I do to reupload, it says:

The uploaded file could not be moved to wp-content/uploads/2014/05.

Why would it think I am trying to move this file to that older folder? I am confused. NONE of my galleries are showing images, but they did a few weeks ago. I am thinking maybe it has something to do with when the server did their thing when I was ready to launch the site. The server guy said when i was done building the site, “you can request your @ and www hosts pointed to your cgi server account so that visitors see your WordPress site as your main web site.”. I did that and now the url has the cgi. in the url: https://cgi.mishawakalions.org/

Could this be part of the problem? The image paths match the path where they are located on server, so I am stumped.

  • Yes; That’s part of the problem.

You see when things are uploaded the HTTPD (the web daemon) puts the file first into a TEMP directory THAN moves it to where it needs to be.

So, if the temp directory is full or you don’t have permission to have the file move from the temp to the wp-content/uploads you would get that error.

You should at this point contact your hosting (or whatever amounts as your server guy) and say you’re having this issue.

Wow – that is all mind boggling to me. I am just a simple Dreamweaver girl starting to use WP. I like it better when i am completely in control of my files, the old fashioned way. But I do love the features WP offers, I just have to wrap my head around this stuff.

I finally got everything where i needed them to go after jumping through a few hoops. The ‘server guy’ isn’t helpful to me at all, but I am stuck using him since my client wanted to continue to use him as their hosting service (I think its because he is cheap).

    Thanks for your time!

Not a WordPress problem, it’s a Hosting problem.
