    Hi,

We used a theme to build a website, I have not posted a link to the site as it is now just a maintenance page.

Halfway through customising the theme, the client had to move from one hosting packing to another on GoDaddy, the client tried to do the migration themselves and it did not work. They did not have a backup of the site on GoDaddy but he did use a WordPress plugin to back up and download the zip file.

Once GoDaddy had fixed the migration problem, he gave them the zip file but they said it did not work was the file was corrupt.

Is it possible to just upload the backup zip file via the WordPress Dashboard, Appearance, Themes?

Or will we get the same corrupt message?

    Thank you.

  • If the zip file is indeed corrupt, then uploading it via the WordPress dashboard wouldn’t make a difference.

But you want to find out if the file is indeed corrupt, or the file simply isn’t in the format that the GoDaddy staff is used to and concluded it must be a corrupt file (seen this on multiple occasions!)

Simply unzip/extract the zip file on your personal local computer!

Does it extract successfully? Or do you see an error message instead?

If the zip file extracts successfully, then chances are the file is fine. In that case, please let me know what backup plugin was originally used to generate the backup, so I can advise on the next step.

    Standing by.

    Hi,

Sorry for the late reply. I am on vacation. Before I left I was able to open the zip file.

This is the reply from Godaddy:

    Archive: /home/z3xmulkpmbjh/public_html/glowenergygroup-co-uk-.zip
End-of-central-directory signature not found. Either this file is not
a zipfile, or it constitutes one disk of a multi-part archive. In the
latter case the central directory and zipfile comment will be found on
the last disk(s) of this archive.
unzip: cannot find zipfile directory in one of /home/z3xmulkpmbjh/public_html/glowenergygroup-co-uk-.zip or
/home/z3xmulkpmbjh/public_html/glowenergygroup-co-uk-.zip.zip, and cannot find /home/z3xmulkpmbjh/public_html/glowenergygroup-co-uk-.zip.ZIP, period.

    Thank you.

Do you think this should work?
I am able to open the zip file?

    Thank you.
