• I’m trying to add an image to a page and when I click on the button to insert image and try to upload from my computer, I get this error message.

Unable to create directory /home/fellowsh/public_html/wp-content/uploads/2009/10. Is its parent directory writable by the server?

    Any help would be appreciated.

  • First ftp/ or cpanel into your account.
    go to wp-content
    open it
and see if you have an ‘uploads’ folder in there, if you do check the permissions, try 755 or if that doesn’t work use 777 for a test.
If you don’t – create a new folder called ‘uploads’ and set permissions at 755
Then go back to the dashboard and try to upload an image.
If it works – you’re all set.
If it doesn’t – set permissions at 777
Do another upload.. if it works great..
go back and change the permission on the uploads folder to 755
    and you should be good.

I tried doing that. It didn’t work. I renamed the uploads folder uploads_old and created a new uploads folder. When I try to add an image from the dashboard, my image that I uploaded into cpanel isn’t there.

Are you trying to upload through the WP upload button?
Are you adding the image to a post from oct 2009?
Did you make sure that folder had 777 permissions?

Or are you trying to upload (into WP ) from Cpanel?

I was trying to do it both ways. When I try to upload the image via WP upload button from a file on my computer, I get this error message. Unable to create directory /home/fellowsh/public_html/wp-content/uploads/2010/09. Is its parent directory writable by the server?

I uploaded the file via file manager through cpanel, but I can’t find it when I try to insert the image via WP clicking the button add image or add media, I can’t find the file in the media gallery.

Did you try with reset permissions?
You may ask your hosts for help.
You cannot upload an image through cpanel to your wp install and be able to see it in the media, you have to go through the wp add image to get the image attached to a post. or page.
