We’re having the issue too. Import created random items that were already assigned to a post type. For example, in one case, an existing menu item was replaced with “Untitled ngg_pictures”.

Looks like there are a few threads involving this issue, but no solution within them. Will attempt to debug and post any results here, although I’m not very familiar with NextGEN Gallery so I may not find the source of the issue.
