Uploaded Images getting Lost
-
Hello together,
something is really annoying to me. I had now several times that Images are getting lost and are completely gone! What Kind of WordPress are you running?
Multi User Installation with some other Webmasters. What Kind of Images?
Banner, .gif files, Small IconsHow do I get them up?
I just use the Media Uploader of WordPress, take the URL and add it as i do need it.Where they are used?
After i had uploaded them, they usually get inserted into a Sidebar Widget or directly into the *.php File to create a desired effect. Were they really online and visible before?
Yes! Definately.Did you delete the files?
For sure not! Files that are one time uploaded do not get touched anymore, as long there is no reason to do so.Other Images are still visible and online?
Yes they are. All normal Posting related Images are still fine and online. Is that the first time you encounter the problem?
Sadly, no. It happened already several times where the Image was used the same way.The Example this time is a small Star Gif that i had added to some Text in a Sidebar Widget. Worked perfectly and everything was fine.
Now after several updates i have to see, that the image isn’t found anymore, I plainly get the 404 Error message. Checked via FTP, the file is GONE. It was uploaded October 2013.My idea is that WordPress automatically deletes Images that are not ‘connected’ to a Posting, is that possible? I couldn’t find anything that would mention that behavior, but it does look like it.
Or is there something related to the Updates? I do them with the normal automatic function, and maybe at that time it also cleans up unused Files?
Maybe someone ran already into the same problem as i did and has a solution so that won’t happen anymore.
Kind Regards
[ No bumping please. ]
