How do I upload a new page template if I don’t have access to the wp-content/themes/revolution/ sub-directory via an FTP client? I can only use the wp-admin client. I have the OneClick Install plug-in available, if that can somehow be used.

The person that setup this site created a few page templates, so I basically copied an existing template and changed some sidebar specifications. The new template is on my local PC, and now I need to get it up on the server. Is FTP the only way? Or, is there a function in the wp-admin, or a plug-in?-

  • explain what you mean by “dont have ftp access” —

do you mean you, personally, dont have access because you dont know the ftp info, or that the hosting service doesnt offer ftp access?

I ask because the web site in your profile is hosted by a company that clearly allows ftp access.

Thanks for your reply, whooami. I personally don’t have FTP access. I can only use the wp-admin interface, since the person that setup this WP environment can’t figure out how to setup my FTP access. And, since he is on holidays until January and I’m under a deadline, I’m looking for some creative solutions to this situation. I’d like to upload a few new page templates and a few new sidebars.

Thanks for any info you can provide.

If you dont have ftp access, ie, a username and password that allows it, then chances are you dont have any “control panel” access either, since 9 times out of 10, that would be the same username/password.

Plugins need to be uploaded, either via ftp, or through a control panel (cpanel allows uploads, for instance).. but again, that username/password combo is **typically** the same as the ftp username/password.

Point is, if you cant upload a theme file, how can you expect to upload a plugin? And if you can do one, you can do the other — regardless of how you accomplish it.

I am not familiar with the plugin you mention in your original post (assuming its already uploaded).

You are right. I don’t have access via FTP or CPANEL at this point. I can install plugins through a WP plug-in called OneClick (https://anirudhsanjeev.org/oneclick/) that the tech person added to this site. This plugin enables me to install other plug-ins or themes, as long as they are zipped.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

In case anyone ever needs this info, I found a way to change my default “uploads” directory, so at least I can upload new files. Options > Miscellaneous
