• If i upload new pictures with any NextGenGallery Version 2.x everything works fine, except all the Metadata of my pictures are lost.

Maybe due to the resize/compression function of NextGenGallery?!
I upload all pictures in a size of 1600×1067 (~2MB per pic), after upload in the gallery folder they are still of same pixel-dimension, but more compressed ~400kb. At this point all the metadata is gone.

Uploading the pictures manually via FTP works just fine. All Metadata is still available, but sometimes it won’t create thumbnails correctly or at all.

Currently I’m running 2.0.7 but i didn’t notice any fixes regarding this problem in the 2.0.11 changelog.

  • hi there
i’m having exactly the same issue. the meta data aren’t available after importing images into a gallery with the plugin version 2.0.31
were you able to fix it?
    thanx

No, it’s not fixed yet. ??

My workaround is to upload one picture within wordpress to generate the specific folder. Afterwards I start my FTP-Tool and upload the pictures manuelly. Then you can click “Scan Folder for new images” and everything is ok.

But this is not a solution I like to offer to my unexperienced wordpress users, since most of them do not even know what FTP is. ??

Still hoping for a fix of this bug!

Currently NextGEN will import IPTC data, we’re still working on EXIF, but IPTC should work. We tested this several times before releasing v31 so it should be importing correctly. Would you mind confirming you have added the meta in the IPTC fields before importing?

    Thanks! (Becky)

Actually I didn’t update to 2.0.31 yet, since i couldn’t find any changes in the changelog being important for me. I was still running on 2.0.30

But now, after your post I did update and it’s working!

Thanks for the fix, no more work around necessary, i guess. ??

    hi again

i’m on v31 and it’s not working for me. i guess i am maintaining the exif values by using the windows explorer (properties of an image, details tab, maintain the values there).

the strange thing is the following: with the previous nextgen version i had installed (unfortunately i don’t know how to figure out which was the last one i’ve had installed before the actual v31) it was working fine.

another hint: the image.jpg_backup files do all still have the exif information. if i use the bulk action “recover from backup” the exif information is displayed correctly in the “Alt & Title Text / Description” input field. using this bulk action is actually my workaround so far, unfortuately i lose the automatic resizing of course by doing so…

any hint to solve the issue would be appreciated.

@axel Perschmann – Excellent! Good to hear it. Thank you for updating us here in the thread. ??

@puregin – We’re still working on EXIF, IPTC data will work though in v31. Do you have Adobe Bridge? Lightroom or Photoshop? Or any photo-editing software should have IPTC fields. If you add meta in the IPTC fields, those should automatically be imported on upload.

    hi becky
thanks for the reply. basically i would be able to maintain iptc values. what really confuses me is the thing, that it used to work before and now it doesn’t anymore. is this just me beeing stupid or did something change (as axel already assumed) in the resizing procedure?
    thanks

@puregin – there used to be an issue with the way NextGEN was handling the meta when resizing images, yes, it was creating its own copy of the image. But now that should be resolved in recent versions. Which version are you using? As of v31, that should all be resolved. If you haven’t already, clear all cache: in your browser, if you have a caching plugin – clear the cache in the settings > Then deactivate the caching plugin. Deactivate NextGEN Gallery then re-activate it and try uploading images you have applied IPTC meta data too. If the meta doesn’t import automatically, and if it doesn’t import when you select to import it in Manage Galleries bulk actions, send us a bug report here and we’ll take a closer look: https://www.nextgen-gallery.com/report-bug/

    hi becky

i did update today to v 33 unfortunately it still does not overtake the exif meta information yet (it’s anyway not mentioned in the change log so i guess you’re not there yet).

as not everybody might be familiar with command line operations to mass modify meta information i would like to name a nice free batch tool which allows you to copy any exif field value into a iptc field. one can choose which exif field value shall be copied into which iptc field and even group several copy procedures into one in a very easy way. you can then apply this previously created procedure to one or countless images in one shot.

there are as well many other options in this tool but i mainly use it for the batch processing of copying exif values into iptc fields. it’s called imbatch and can be downloaded from various sources on the internet (the file which i’ve downloaded from the software company highmotionsoftware.com website turned out to be a corrupt one, so i used another download site).

i will use this tool until the nextgen will again be able to import the exif meta information as well.

    regards
