upload file management admin tool?

I’m working on a site with a number of PDF files. I’d love an admin tool that would let me view the list of uploaded files (possibly sorted by type, but I can manage with the default sort). Sometimes I’d like to change the title and description I’d given the item when I uploaded it.

Any such thing exist? Any brilliant programmer want to write one?
