• Great plugin! Regardling the uploading of external images- it would be great to be able to:

*Set the minimum and maximum file sizes within the plugin

*Have the option of renaming the filename before it is saved locally using placeholders like %filename%, %title%, %date%, %day%, %month%, %year%, %timestamp% etc. Eg. you could set the save filename format as photo_%day%- %month%-%year%.jpg

*Have an extra option to upload all external images in the content, not just the first one. Very useful in automating the local storing of all external image files.

Woah, great ideas, but a lot of work for me! I don’t know whether and when I will implement your wishes, so please be very patient ??

What is the purpose behind “Set the minimum and maximum file sizes within the plugin”?

Thanks for the quick reply! I’ll be patient ?? I wrote that post in a bit of a hurry and it wasn’t very clear. Let me clarify.

When we publish posts remotely using services like IFTTT etc. all image URLs are external and not uploaded to the media library. It would be great if the plugin could:

    1. Detect all external image links in a post when published

    2. Upload all these images to the media library, rename them using the custom filename rules, attach them to the post and replace the external URLs with the new local URLs

    3. Set the first image as the featured image

There are several plugins that already auto-upload external images (some even have options to set the featured image, set custom filenames etc) but they aren’t as comprehensive as your plugin:

If your plugin had a similar functionality built in it would be an all-in-one solution for handling images.

The “set maximum width / length” within the plugin would just apply to uploaded external images, so that very large ones could be reduced before being saved locally.
