Upload error

The folder should either be 755 or 777. 755 is preferable, but 777 is sometimes required to get the job done. For this reason, I highly recommend having a separate upload folder in the WordPress root, like /wordpress/images/ or /wordpress/upload/.

I found the place to change the folder upload path & & now I can upload.

I just discoverd that I cannot view any of the images I’ve uploaded. I get a 404 error when I try to view an uploaded image via my browser.

I’m sure I’ve misconfigured something but don’t know what.

My destination directory & url directory are:

/home/richard2/public_html/photos/uncategorized/
https://box22.bluehost.com/~richard2/public_html/photos/uncategorized/

We’ve had to customize these paths because of the weird folder settings that came with my Typepad upload folders.

So, if you are uploading them to /photos/uncategorized/, can you confirm that photos exist in /photos/uncategorized/ ?

The URL for your pictures would seem to be https://www.richardsilverstein.com/photos/uncategorized/ (assuming that’s the site we’re talking about.

“public_html” is a physical directory on the server, not part of a URL – it typically corresponds to the root of your site. (https://www.richardsilverstein.com/) in your case.

I’ve checked via ftp & I see the images there. They just won’t display when I put the link into my browser & when I try to add them to an image link.

That is my Typepad blog site. I’m moving over to WP & my current URL (till I get my domain switched over) is https://box22.bluehost.com/~richard2/tikun_olam/

Same thing applies.

For that site “public_html” will correspond to https://box22.bluehost.com/~richard2/ and your images are in https://box22.bluehost.com/~richard2/photos/uncategorized/

Thanks, Les. That helped me get the paths straight (I think). Now, I can view the images in my browser. But for some reason (& this may be a separate problem), the images won’t display in a sidebar link.

Here are the new filepaths I’m using in Options/Miscellaneous:
Destination directory:

URL directory:
https://box22.bluehost.com/~richard2/photos/uncategorized/

Do I have them right now? Any ideas on why the images won’t display? I notice that all 3 images which won’t display are jpgs (though there are amazon jpgs that display just fine).

That URL certainly leads to your images. Can you give a link to the page where you’re trying to display the images? And mention where they’re supposed to be, so we can have a look at the links?
