I have no clue what version of WP I am using because I have never downloaded or installed any WP software on my computer. I seem to be doing just fine just by logging in to my site. Perhaps this is the source of all the difficulties I’ve been having?

On to the issue at hand…

Google has sent me a file to upload to my domain:
    https://rto-pa.com

    The Google file contains:
    google-site-verification: google760f95b11837549f.html

If I could only upload this file, I’d be able to continue with Google’s site verification process.

How do I upload this file? I see nothing in my dashboard for doing this.

    Cheers,

    Bill

  • On your Dashboard, scroll down to the end. At the bottom right hand corner you’ll see your WordPress version. Also if there’s nothing saying you should update, then you’re probably on the latest version.

The file should be uploaded to where the website is hosted.
Do you have access to where your website is being hosted?

I inherited webmaster duties for a website that already existed. I have no clue where the site is being hosted. I assumed that Word Press is the host. I was never given any files, only a password so I could go in to the site and create a login for myself.

I simply want to upload a file but there is no facility for doing so. Everything is done on-line through the WordPress interface which does not seem to provide the means to simply upload a file. None of the pages on the website exist on my computer. They were all created on-line so there is nothing to upload whenever I make changes to the RTO-PA website. There is no WP software on my computer.

The bottom of my dashboard says:

    Version 4.3.1

You could ask the previous owner where the website is being hosted and upload the file there.

Otherwise, make use of one of Google’s alternate methods. To make things easier, just use one of the many WordPress plugins to verify your site.

    This one should work:

I went to the plugin tab of my dashboard and added the suggested plugin. Other than editing or deactivating it, I cannot see any way to actually USE it. What am I missing?

Please remember. I have not downloaded any WP software or plugins to my computer and am operating solely from the online interface via my browswer.

    P.S.
I sent Colleen an email asking her about the server.

WP has been such a large PITA compared to my usual way of doing things. For my own websites, I simply write the HTML myself and use FilesZilla to upload changed/new files to my server. I’ve been doing this since 1997 when I started my first radio program.

Of course, I do nothing fancy which, although plain to view, is safe for visitors. My code does nothing except display information. I do nothing to collect info or run on the visitor’s machine.

In WordPress look for AIO Webmaster in the left sidebar. Choose Header/Footer Options.

Now choose Google’s HTML tag under Alternate methods and copy the code into the Header Section.

WordPress can seem confusing at first, but after a while you’ll realise that it’s really easy.

Oh and there is no WordPress software for computers. Everything is done online on your Dashboard, which is hosted with the rest of your website on some server that hopefully Colleen will give you access to.

    Good luck!

Ding Ding Ding Ding Ding Ding Ding! We have a winner!
    Thank you a bazillion, Ibrahim.

Congratulations, you have successfully verified your ownership of https://rto-pa.com/.

Great! Glad it worked out ??
