• Whilst initiating the process of installing WP onto a new website I’m building using Fantastic (which incidentally failed!) I thought I would upgrade WP to version to 3.5 on a couple of other sites hosted on my server using the Fantastico upgrade method. Both are now offline, I can’t even access the wp-admin for either site and all i get is this message when I try to access either:

Warning: require(/home/xxxxx/public_html/xxxxxx.co.uk/wp-includes/class-wp-embed.php) [function.require]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/xxxxx/public_html/xxxxxx.co.uk/wp-settings.php on line 137

Fatal error: require() [function.require]: Failed opening required ‘/home/xxxxx/public_html/xxxxx.co.uk/wp-includes/class-wp-embed.php’ (include_path=’.:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php’) in /home/xxxxxx/public_html/xxxxxxx.co.uk/wp-settings.php on line 137

I just don’t know how to get the two sites back and running and it’s driving me insane. What do I need to do to get the missing files back.

  • Try:
    – switching to the default theme by renaming your current theme’s folder inside wp-content/themes and adding “-old” to the end of the folder name using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin.

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.

    – running the upgrade manually via wp-admin/upgrade.php

Tried renaming theme and am just left with a white, blank screen

How do I “run a manual upgrade via wp-admin/upgrade.php.” I can see the file via my cpanel but if I try and use it, it’s just appearing as a text file? How do I run the actual thing?

Have you re-uploaded all files & folders – except the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of WordPress? You also need to re-upload a fresh, unpacked, copy of the Twenty Twelve folder to wp-content/themes using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

How do I “run a manual upgrade via wp-admin/upgrade.php.”

Navigate to https://your_domain/wp-admin/upgrade.php in your web browser.

WHen I try the manual upgrade I’m getting this (on both sites taht have gone down

Fatal error: Cannot redeclare get_post_mime_types() (previously declared in /home/xxxxx/public_html/xxxxxx.com/wp-includes/post.php:2194) in /home/xxxx/public_html/xxxxx.com/wp-admin/includes/post.php on line 915

And now to top it all off my FTP accounts (that I set up myself) are not connecting. However, I can access them via my Cpanel (and can verify that the details I’m entering are correct) and have even tried configuring new ftp accounts yet STILL can’t connect via cyberduck or fetch. Connection keeps timing out.

My cpanel allows only single file uploads so I can’t import folders etc unless I can get my ftp working.

This is driving me insane! I don;t know what to do.

RIght, so finally (with some help from my hosting company) managed to sort my ftp issue and upload the WordPress files. I’ve used MySQL to create the database adn users and have done everything suggested in the five minute install.

However, all I’m getting now is this if I try and run the https://www.xxxx/co.uk/wp-admin/install.php

    Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, [email protected] and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Additionally, a 500 Internal Server Error error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

What is going on? I have built other sites using WP and done everything I normally do and never had any issues like this one.

Contact your hosting provider. Your sql is not working.
I’m guessing that you’re on a cheap hosting cmpany
