I’m not totally clear on the 6.0 upgrade process. I have The Events Calendar (not PRO) and I’m on version 5.16.4. I have a message that says ” Previous versions of The Events Calendar are not cross-compatible with 6.X add-ons. ” That’s easy enough, but I can tell if I can just upgrade my version to 6 and there’s nothing else to do. I’ve read that events have to migrated to the new system, but is that PRO?

I guess my question is: with the non-PRO version, what is the upgrade process?

  • Hey @gmex1292

It sounds like the confusion comes from the warning text.
    Sorry about that!

Simply put, if you don’t have any add-ons for The Events Calendar (Pro, Filter Bar, Event Tickets, etc..) you can simply ignore that message.

Version 6 is a major upgrade, hence the warnings.
    That said, it’s a 3-step process:

    1. Before you do anything, make sure you read the following Knowledge Base article and run the recommended tests.
    2. Once that’s done, update the plugin to version 6.0
    3. To take advantage of the new features and performance, you will need to migrate your events to the new system. It’s possible that the migration fails initially (we are still ironing out some bugs), but don’t worry if the migration doesn’t work right away. We’ll sort it out together. Your calendar will continue to function as intended in the meantime.

    Cheers,
    Geoff
