• I took the lazy way out. I just look at the changed files from 2.1 to 2.1.1 and uploaded only those. Then I overwrote the upgrade.php file and ran it. Am I safe now? Did this complete the upgrade?

  • i am also interesting in an answer to this question. i don’t want to do a full install i just want to update the changed files.

    That should work fine. What version is showing at the bottom of admin pages?

    This didn’t work for me, so there might be compatibility issues with some plugins.

    I finished up restoring from backup and haven’t tried to upgrade again yet.

    Any update if it’s cool just to upload these new files for 2.1.1 instead of doing a full upgrade install?

    Files changed in 2.1.1 from 2.1:

    * wp-includes/post-template.php
    * wp-includes/cache.php
    * wp-includes/formatting.php
    * wp-includes/category.php
    * wp-includes/post.php
    * wp-includes/version.php
    * wp-includes/js/scriptaculous/wp-scriptaculous.js
    * wp-includes/js/tinymce/tiny_mce_config.php
    * wp-includes/js/tinymce/wp-mce-help.php
    * wp-includes/js/tinymce/tiny_mce_gzip.php
    * wp-includes/capabilities.php
    * wp-includes/cron.php
    * wp-includes/functions.php
    * wp-includes/bookmark-template.php
    * xmlrpc.php
    * wp-admin/admin-ajax.php
    * wp-admin/admin-functions.php
    * wp-admin/custom-header.php
    * wp-admin/options-general.php
    * wp-admin/edit.php
    * wp-admin/index-extra.php
    * wp-admin/options-reading.php

    I’d also be interested to know if this method would work.

    Yes…the million dollar question.

    Yes, I think we’d all like to hear from more moderators on this…

    Is it sufficient to just copy over the changed files when upgrading from 2.1 to 2.1.1?

    What does the upgrade script do?

    heh. You certainly don’t want my opinion on this. I took the extra 3 minutes and treated it just like any upgrade.

    Do keep in mind: In most cases, moderators != developers.

    Well, at least you’ve made a vote of ‘no confidence’ for the copy method.

    I just don’t want to have to rewrite (again) any core file mods in my existing installation.

    ok It works fine too me, I’ve uploaded only the missiong files and upgrader.php

    If you’re confident in your FTP program, then yes, simply overwriting changed files is perfectly acceptable. It’s what I usually do for minor upgrades.

    Also note that running the upgrade script manually is not actually necessary. If you go to the normal wp-admin page, then you will get a link that will take you to the upgrade script *if* you actually need to do so. WordPress is smart, it knows when the database needs to be updated.

    Always backup everything before any upgrade, of course. Better to be safe than sorry.
