• I have lost access to the Cryout Presentation page and theme customisation options. I am aware that there is a plugin to fix this issue but I am running a fairly old version of the Nirvana theme, v1.0.6. Can anyone tell me how to upgrade the theme without losing all of my changes etc please?

  • Hello alexdobsonuk,
If you have made changes to your theme follow this tutorial: https://premium.wpmudev.org/blog/upgrade-wordpress-themes-even-if-they-are-customized/

If you haven’t make changes to your theme then see this:

Thanks. Was hoping there might be a way without compare and contrast.

Is it possible to roll back a WordPress update seen as it was v4.4 that caused the issue? Could I go back to 4.3?

The Nirvana support pages suggests the following as an update method. As I have customised the parent theme I am a little nervous about doing it. Has anyone else tried it?

If you absolutely want to perform the update manually, the procedure would be to:
export the theme settings using the built-in export functionality
switch your site to a different theme (a Twenty-something should be fine)
from Appearance > Themes, delete the theme
re-install the theme (if you don’t remember how, follow our installation tutorial)
    re-activate the theme
you should find all settings as you left them; if anything goes wrong, use the export you made before to restore the settings

If FTP is comfortable for you, you can also simply re-upload and overwrite the existing files with the latest version.

alexdobsonuk, if you’ve made changes to the theme files, you should start by transferring those changes to a child theme. Depending on the changes, some are easy to transfer, some are next to impossible (but not quite impossible).

After you are sure your code changes are in a child theme and they work, only then you can update the theme.

Configurations done in the theme settings page are not file customizations and are kept between updates (but it’s never a bad idea to make backups – at least using the theme’s export functionality)
