• I am currently running my site on textpattern, but due to several missing features I want to upgrade to wordpress. Is there an easy way to keep my entries and comments? I remember reading about a conversion path when I first heard about wordpress a while back..

  • If you would be willing to send me a dump of your database I’ll write an upgrade script.

Thanks for sending me the file, I’ll look at this.

    One more thing…
Is it possible to start blogging right away and add those other posts via a convert script later, or will that mess with database efficiency or other things I couldn’t dream of?
    Stephan

Sure, there’s no problem with that.

An upgrade script would be awesome for all of us stuck with a never-to-be-updated copy of Textpattern. Thanks Allusion, please let us all know when it’s ready ??

Any news or progess yet, allusion? This is in no way intended to sound impatient, textpattern users are used to wait for extremely long periods of time ??

“textpattern users are used to wait for extremely long periods of time”

    Ouch! ??
I worked on it a bit yesterday, and there is code that will import all entries and comments checked into the CVS in wp-admin/import-textpattern.php. Back everything up before you try, of course, but I would love to have someone try out this code and give me some feedback.

    Hi allusion,
I gave it a try and it fails on step 1 with the following error:
Fatal error: Call to undefined function: sanitize_title() in /home/********/public_html/********/wp-admin/textpattern.php on line 102
(textpattern.php being what I named the file)
    Hope this helps!

You need to have the CVS version of some other files too. I’ll try to package a beta or alpha release soon so this is easier for you.

In the meantime, if you can let us know which other CVS files are needed, I’ll give it a try again for you.

Allusion: A packaged version would be great ??
I have not yet got aroung to tinker with CVS, therefore I’d be able to test as soon as the “package” will be available..

I got those files (and the upgrade from 0.72 to 0.73 script too), and while it pulled everything into my database, I’m not locked out of WordPress as a zero-level user and no comments are showing up on the website itself, old or new.
Great improvements and a million thanks, if I’ve missed a file in the process let me know, I’ll be happy to guinea pig this for you ??

Just to follow up (I’m the same anonymous as above), when I log into WordPress to check my profile, it gives an SQL error: “Unknown column ‘undefined’ in ‘where clause'”
When I go to the Post/Edit section and click on the link for ‘admin’ to view their profile, I get the error: “You have an error in your SQL syntax. Check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near ” at line 1″
Hope this helps, thanks again for an awesome program.
