Upgrading from old 1.5

    I’m currently running on a really old WordPress 1.5.1.3. I should update – really. Can I just run the normal update with 7.1 and hold onto all my posts and categories? I also have spam karma 2 installed on my WordPress 1.5. Remove if first? If so, how? How will that affect my update?

    Don’t try to update at once, there’ve been way too many database changes for that to work. There are threads on this forum about opgrading in smaller steps. I don’t know by heart what’s the right route, so I’d advice a very-small-steps upgrading progress using all versions from the release archive. Look around the forum a bit for the more usefull information (what versions you can skip).

    Let me quote Whooami on the question to go from 2.2.1 to 2.7.1:

    upgrade to 2.3.3
    upgrade to 2.5.1 <– wont hurt, depends on how much time you have
    upgrade to 2.6.5
    upgrade to 2.7.1

    In your case, I’d go to 2.0, 2.1 and 2.2 first and then follow Whoo’s path.
