I have been asked to work on someone’s wp site that is still running on 3.8.1, with the Avada theme v2.1.3 Can anyone tell me if I should expect any problems if I try to upgrade to wordpress 4.1?

  • I haven’t seen or heard anything, but best practice is always backup first.

I did some research on Avada, but couldn’t find any info about Avada theme support for WordPress 4.1. It’s possible I missed it, but if you can’t find it, contact the theme developer directly and ask about 4.1 support.

As @josh Robb said, be sure you have a full backup of the website, files and database, before you do any upgrades.

It’s always best to test the upgrade on a local version of the site first, before upgrading the online site.

If you haven’t already done it, check your plugins to ensure they’ll work with 4.1 (compatibility info is displayed next to “Edit” under the plugin name).

Yes, actually there have been a couple of threads on Avada – see:

If you need additional help, please contact the developer – as he/she should be providing support. Commercial products aren’t supported here.

WPyogi is correct, I should have remembered to say commercial products aren’t supported here.

Hopefully the theme developer will get back with you quickly.

Thanks, and definitely planning on doing a back up.
My question was really more about updating to the new WP version from what was several versions ago. In the past I’ve had problems with themes not being compatible, so just thought I’d mention what theme I was using, sorry if that made my question less clear.

Oh sorry we misinterpreted that, here’s the info on updating more than 2 versions –

(It’s always helpful and good to mention all the info such as your theme, BTW :). )

    Great, it says,
“Essential, it’s okay to skip one release, but never skip TWO when upgrading.”
So since I’m only skipping one, I guess I should not expect any serious issues.
Really tempted to fix the typo (should be Essentially), but that’s what it said ??

You’re actually doing 3: 3.9 – 4.0 – 4.1. So you’d probably be better off doing the extended. Either way, do be sure you back up your site and database beforehand – that way you’re covered no matter what :)!
