I’ve been slow with my updates. Currently running 3.6, when I update to 3.7.1 I can’t access any update pages (wp-admin/plugins.php doesn’t load, nor update-core.php, the themes.php page, etc). Keeps giving a file not found error.

Contacted web hosting company, they suggested fresh re-install. Did and nothing changed.

Tried de-activating the plugins, different theme and still no luck.

Site runs fine during all this but not being able to update in the future makes me concerned.

Anyone else have this problem? Any suggestions/ideas?

Did a search but couldn’t find anything specific to this issue.

    Thanks for reading

Tried… different theme and still no luck
    – Have you particularly tried switching to the unedited default, core-bundled Theme (such as Twenty Twelve or Twenty Thirteen) for a moment using the WP dashboard. If you don’t have access to your admin area, you can switch to the default theme by renaming your current theme’s folder in wp-content/themes and adding “-old” to the end of the folder name using via FTP or SFTP or whatever file management application your host provides. Alternately, you can remove other themes except the default theme. That will force your site to use it.

    Tried de-activating the plugins,

    – Have you tried resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems (because the hooks remain unless plugins completely removed or some plugins stick around in cached files. So by renaming the folder, you break them and force them inactive).

I’m having the exact same issue. I tried a manual re-install along with disabling all of my plugins via phpMyAdmin. I can access most of my admin pages but Plugins.php and update-core.php. Anyone find a solution for this?

I ended up manually updating from 3.6 to 3.6.1 to 3.7 to 3.7.1 and that worked. Jumping from 3.6 to 3.7.1 was too much but doing it in steps seemed to have solved it. I hope that helps!

I downgraded to 3.6.1 and things are working again. Thats good to know that manually updating it in steps seemed to work. Thanks.
